Registration is open for the 12th Ibero-American Museum Meeting

The Ibermuseos Programme and the Directorate-General for Museums of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic announce that registration is now open for the 12th Ibero-American Museum Meeting (EIM).

The event, which is the region’s leading forum for dialogue on public policy and technical exchange within the museum sector, will take place from 14 to 16 September 2026 in Santo Domingo, bringing together more than 70 museum professionals and experts for a wide-ranging programme.

Under the theme ‘Shared heritage, common futures’, this edition invites reflection on heritage as a collective endeavour and living memory, essential for building fairer, more inclusive and sustainable societies.

The conference will address three thematic areas related to the central theme:

• Diversity and the social appropriation of heritage. People and communities at the centre: this theme invites reflection on heritage as a socially shared space that is accessible and meaningful to people and communities. It emphasises the need to broaden access, promote participation and guarantee the exercise of cultural rights, recognising diversity in its many dimensions and challenging the historical exclusions present in museum practices.

• Narrating, interpreting, co-creating. Heritage as a field of contention: this theme invites a critical review of the ways in which museums construct and communicate their discourses, recognising them as non-neutral spaces. It highlights the importance of incorporating multiple voices, promoting processes of participation and co-creation with communities, and moving towards more plural, inclusive and dialogical narratives.

• Biocultural territories and a culture of peace. Pathways to shared futures:  this theme invites reflection on the relationships between nature, culture, heritage and community, highlighting the importance of territories as living spaces of memory and cultural production. It incorporates the notion of a culture of peace as an ethical framework, promoting care, coexistence and the building of fairer and more sustainable futures.

Museum staff, public sector managers, professionals in the fields of culture, education and heritage, researchers, academics, students and anyone else interested in the world of museology are invited to take part.

Registration will remain open until 8 September. With the aim of broadening access to the knowledge produced by this multidisciplinary ecosystem, it will be possible to attend in person or follow part of the programme via live streaming.
