RE-ORG Method

About this publication

An estimated 90% of artefacts of more than 55,000 museums around the world are saved in storages. As collections grow and financial resources continue to decline, museums face the challenge of ensuring that their stored treasures are properly preserved and accessible.

RE-ORG is a method developed by ICCROM and the JRC that directly addresses this issue. In nearly a decade, RE-ORG has been applied in more than 100 museums worldwide through hands-on workshops, mentoring sessions and online training.

This field-tested methodology has now been packaged in a four-part kit that provides guidance on the process of transforming your museum’s storage area so you can regain control of your collection.

Summary

The RE-ORG kit contains:

01> A simple and flexible structure that is easy to navigate.
02> Tons of tips and tricks designed to optimize space, equipment, time and money. Information collected by museologists who have applied RE-ORG around the world in recent years.
03> A visually appealing and easy-to-use layout.

And all the basic requirements:

04> A handout with step-by-step instructions that can be applied to almost any project.
05> Spreadsheets and templates to take stock of the current situation.
06> Additional resources to meet your specific needs and interests.
07> A self-assessment tool to help you quickly diagnose your storage situation.
