Studies of Museum Publics in Ibero-America

About this publication

This report encompasses the available resources and initiatives that have been implemented in Ibero-America to study museum publics and learn to what extent these studies are institutionalized in national public policies.

Summary

The report on Studies of Museum Publics in Ibero-America, developed by the Ibero-American Observatory of Museums (IOM) of the Ibermuseums Program, presents an overview of the studies that are being conducted in the fifteen countries that participated in the survey. The collected data offer several analytical perspectives to improve the management of these institutions. The study also describes, in detail, the methodology used for data collection, how these data were processed and addresses the process of developing this research tool. With this information, each participating country can learn more about what has been developed in other countries that are participating in the study. The countries can also use the material as an example and basis for future developments that are of national interest. By learning more about the reality of these countries we can understand the local situation in an international context. The report also indicates which areas are of the greatest interest and reveals a lack of studies, while contributing further knowledge on this subject.
