Since 2010, the Ibermuseums Program has sought to recognize and foster the educational potential of museums through an award to encourage initiatives that strengthen the role of museum engagement in Ibero-America.
The Ibermuseums Education Award, a unique initiative in the region, is an example of this. From the 1,235 entries, we have already awarded 69 projects and recognized 148 projects with an Honorable Mention, with more than US$ 470,000 in investment. These are valuable and transformative initiatives of the educational potential of museums that deserve recognition and encouragement.
The first edition of the Award had a unique category, created for the recognition of projects that have already been carried out. From 2011, with the introduction of the “project incubator” concept, a second category was created to also reward programs in the planning or development phase.
Currently, museums from all 22 countries in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula can compete in these two categories. The first category rewards the three best projects, finalized or in progress; the second honours five projects being drafted or planned, thus encouraging their effective implementation.
