The present study was carried out on behalf of the General Sub-directorate of Museums of Spain, with funding provided by the Ibermuseums Program.

A professional overview of the scenario in Spain, encompassing more than 1,550 museums and museum collections and 14,784 professionals, according to the 2010 survey conducted by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. 67.5% of these museums are public, 30.4% belong to the private sector and 2.1% are jointly owned.
This study was conducted with financial support from the Ibermuseums Program and the General Sub-directorate of State Museums of Spain, in order to liaise with this sector, which includes directors, technical staff, technicians and museum assistants who work in areas such as conservation, restoration, documentation, education, marketing and communication, management and administration. The study people who are actively employed in a museum or at any type or level of museums or heritage projects in Public Administration, as well as professionals currently unemployed and who were previously employed in this sector.
