Supporting the adoption of new, more conscious and sustainable museum management models has been one of Ibermuseus’ objectives since 2014, when the Line of Action on the Sustainability of Museum Institutions and Processes was created. With the launch of the Common Conceptual Framework on Sustainability (CCFS), we offer museums in Ibero-America a document designed to inspire the sustainable management of institutions across the region.
This publication has been developed in alignment with the declarations of the Ibero-American Cultural Charter and the global Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030). It proposes a new concept of sustainability that incorporates the economic, social, and environmental dimensions, while also emphasizing the cultural perspective. This perspective highlights the role of peoples, communities, institutions, groups, and social movements in shaping Ibero-American social memory.
The book is organized into five sections:
The first focuses on positioning and interpreting the concept of sustainable development.
The second explores the connection between sustainable development and museums, including key definitions of sustainable museums.
The third addresses the dimensions of sustainable development as applied to museums.
The fourth section delves into policies on the subject, with a focus on Ibero-America, and introduces the operational concept of Sustainable Museums and Museum Processes within the framework of the Line of Action.
The fifth section offers a glossary with complementary, cross-cutting, and operational definitions.
