Ibermuseums Education Award

Since 2010, the Ibermuseums Education Award (PIE) has recognized and promoted the educational potential of museums, strengthening their role as agents of social transformation, inclusion and justice in Ibero-America. This incentive mechanism distinguishes projects endowed with financial support and mentions of honor for their trajectory, quality and value, when their educational work deserves a special distinction.

Through 15 editions and 304 recognized projects, the Prize has consolidated a trajectory that reflects the diversity of the Ibero-American museum landscape, reaffirming the importance of education as a driver of social change. The evaluation criteria value inclusion, gender equity, sustainability, community participation, pedagogical innovation and territorial decentralization, seeking to reach all types of museum institutions, located in different regions of the Ibero-American territory.

The award-winning initiatives are available at the Bank of Good Practices in Education, a unique repository of educational projects awarded in the different editions of the call, both with financial support and with mention of honor. This repository has become an essential source of inspiration and reference for museum professionals.

Since its first edition, the PIE has received applications from museum institutions in 18 Ibero-American countries. This broad tray is collected in the digital publication A shared imagination. History of the Ibermuseums Education Award. There it is possible to understand the driven projects, their reach and the transformations generated thanks to the support of Ibermuseums.

From experiences in rural communities to programs in large capitals, through this platform it is possible to explore different editions, discover good museum practices and, with each of them, confirm that education is a powerful tool for transformation.

The success of the Award is also due to the joint work of the national and special evaluation committees, made up of experts who, on a voluntary basis and with deep commitment, take on the challenge of analyzing and selecting the most outstanding proposals, edition after edition. Throughout the 13 editions of the PIE, 23 committees have evaluated around 2,000 projects submitted by multiple Ibero-American institutions.

It is thanks to this great collaborative process that Ibermuseums, through the Ibermuseums Education Award, promotes projects that demonstrate the power of museums to foster intercultural dialogue, strengthen local identities, and build more democratic and participatory societies.
